Re: The Bard's Tale IV is officially coming!!!

So how does everyone feel about this footage of the alpha? It doesn't feel that much like Bard's tale to me from what I have seen but I do like that the puzzles and the items puzzles especially. The blue glowing grid puts me off though it gives me a sci-fi vibe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Z5sL...

Re: Traps bug?

So I found a working version of the C64 version of the game a while back where traps work. Would a site moderator like me to send them the files so they can upload to this site? Let me know!

I agree, redistributing the D64 images with the corrected trap subroutines would be awesome. It'd give people a shock who were used to going, "Oh pfft, a MINDTRAP. Big friggin OH MY GOD WHAT THE F@#$%?!" 8) Ha yes it would be a big shock eh? The game is WAY too easy without the trap...

Dang, looks like this fix broke the treasure chest traps. Now whenever I get rewarded a chest after battle the traps on these dont work. I got so excited when I saw this was fixed I started another play though, looks like I might need to wait longer for a working version  Edit post: I went and...

Hot Damn it works! Great work Drifting! Does someone want to post the working dungeon discs to the main website's list of files? I still have a hard time believe the game was shipped like this and was never fixed, thats a HUGE bug to miss and its not what I remember back in the day playing this game.

I bet one of these are the culprits: a29d:009f:1 20 d5 08 jsr $08d5 a2a0:00a2:1 b0 13 bcs $a2b5 a2a2:00a4:1 c9 00 cmp #$00 a2a4:00a6:1 f0 07 beq $a2ad This subroutine at $08D5 probably nullifies damage or modifies the saving-roll. Can't be sure without testing it in the engine, but this should be a...

Dang was thinking of playing the C64 version of Bard's tale II again so wanted to check if anyone figured out the trap issue. I wish I knew a way to help... :( I saw on a MatChat video Brian Fargo and Becky Heineman interviewed. This might sound dumb but I wonder if I found their emails if they woul...

*Sigh* This requires a special cable between original Commodore hardware and the PC and a (freeware) program like e.g. StarCommander. Please see Peter Schepers homepage for the best cable choice... E D I T The *sigh* was only meant, because that requires more work from that user than he/she likely ...

Ok the user has agree to extract to Roms and test his disc version that way but he does not know how.

Can you provide instructions on how he can create roms from his discs? He would just need to have a way to save the floppy .d64 (C64 image files) to his windows PC.

Suggestions?

well, i tried loading BT2 yesterday and the traps works fine on the Disc version and the tape version on level 3 of the starter dungeon, so i guess it must something about the emulation. I don't understand why EVERYTHING about the game would translate to the emulator fine except for the trap bug. T...

@ Saxon No, in contrary: I doubted that the reason for the problem is the damage routine itself, because the same damage routine is called for any kind of damage. Instead I am suspecting the routine, that does a "safe roll" to avoid damage from a trap per character. If that one works wron...

I have made a zip with decoated D64 images, i.e. with the files visible. They are still (supposed) xor'ed by $EA. But files could be de-xored and then the TRAP event be found (should be very similar to the one from BT1 where it is within file NM1D). In there should be a call to the damage routine, ...
