Re: Board Upgrade

Yep, the brickwork look much more fitting for a Bard's Tale forum :)

Re: Board Upgrade

Yay! I much prefer the new look as previously the text was low contrast making it difficult to read for my eyes. The boarder graphics have a bit of a Robot Wars vibe to them. Which is fine, but Brian The Fist, if you could use the border graphics of your avatar for the boarder graphics of the formum...

Re: Best character for special slot?

Certainly not the post powerful character, but the coolest special slot creature in my opinion is Mangar himself. It is possible, a powerful magic user can cast Mind Grab (or whatever) and it can work on Mangar, on the C64 tape version at least. Here is my BT1 party (no cheating was involved in this ...

Re: New player and some questions!

It is my belief that BT1 (C64 version) does permit keep track of AC past -10. You see, I used to not care about armour once my party were all LO, but I found that I was not able to run from some fights and that my characters never got the first hit in combat. Years later, I took AC into consideratio...

Re: CBM64 Bard's Tale 1 Disassembly

Imho BT had the most sophisticated RPG-Engine on the CBM64 ever, but thats only my 2 cents. Agreed. I was always in awe of how sophisticated the graphics compression of BT1 must be. I had BT1 on tape, and and each dungeon level would be a short load - which unbelievably included monster graphics! I...

Re: The Lost City Of Drez'Brae

Thanks for all of that information Darendor. I did download your modified Bard's Tale files on the 18th Demember 2016, but I gave up on it after wandering around Skara Brea and the Wine Cellor without finding any differences. Had I known that I was one level away from a set of new Sewer levels then ...

Re: A couple of questions

I guess the AC thing makes Warrior a better choice than Paladin since he can equip Spectre Snare and will get a better hit rate. My guys all land hits there but Paladin only hits maybe 1/3rd of the time (and he's at LO without Pureshield, Shield Ring, and Elf cloak equipped) and Hunter half. Monk s...

Re: A couple of questions

I had the same problem, and I learned the hard way that despite having very high levels (way above 40), my Paladins were still missing everything in the towers. Then I learned that armour class (AC) does actually go below -10, despite LO being displayed permanently for any value of -10 or below. So ...

Re: Bardcraft!

That's pretty neat. But I think you should have gone for a slightly more challenging dungeon, like say, Kylearan's Tower. Or maybe the 3rd floor of Oscon's Fortress. Ah, finally a Kylearan's Tower that you can walk though. Hell yeah. I'd to see a Minecraft Scara Brae, but I wouldn't want to wish th...

Re: Amusing story to a glitch in the Kindle version

So I'm playing while waiting on my wife's car to be worked on. In the Sewers, Level 3, and have played for about an hour since the last save. Spell points are a bit low, so it's time to dredge my way back. Also got a few goodies and some EP's, so saving is a good idea also. Go back to the portal on...

Re: new member

I think the hand drawn maps are fine as they are. They remind me if the maps I pencilled in an old maths exercise book back in the day, especially as I used some of the same drawing techniques such as circled numbers, text under the map, shaded darkness areas and askerisks for special areas. I feel ...

Re: CBM64 Bard's Tale 1 Disassembly

What does "BAD" mean in the disassembled code? Same as ??? I guess, meaning that the binary value is not a valid machine code instruction, like when you disassemble data? Or there may be some undocumented instructions that are not supported by the disassembler? I'm guessing as I don't kno...
