Re: Amstrad and Spectrum
Yes that’s pretty much it (at least on the Spectrum version - I’m assuming the Amstrad version works the same and is basically a Z80 port of the Spectrum code) If the party was full then you had to permanently remove a character in order to be able to create another one. You then saved the whole par...

Re: CBM64 Bard's Tale 1 Disassembly
Does anyone have the data values for the spell effects table (not the spell point cost or spell code names)? I’m assuming there’s a table (or tables) for attributes such as range, effect, combat/non-combat and self/party. Trawled through all of these Dev threads and can’t find reference to it. I’m ...

Re: Bardcraft!
That's pretty neat. But I think you should have gone for a slightly more challenging dungeon, like say, Kylearan's Tower. Or maybe the 3rd floor of Oscon's Fortress. Ah, finally a Kylearan's Tower that you can walk though. Hell yeah. I'd to see a Minecraft Scara Brae, but I wouldn't want to wish th...

Re: Bard's Tale Sinclair ZX Spectrum Poster
I remember this well - the same issue as the playable demo (just the Skara Brae level) appeared on the covertape.
I was hooked immediately- bought the full game as soon as it came out and the rest is history...

WIDR is good until it starts being disbelieved on a regular basis (Kyleran's Tower onwards), and there's usually a bit of a gap until you get the GRSU spell, at least in the MS-DOS version... Not a problem on the Spectrum version, as there's what I'm assuming is a bug that allows you access to all t...

Favourite / Least Favourite Dungeon
What is everyone's favourite and least favourite dungeon to play through in the game? My least favourite has to be the sewers - especially the top two levels. In practically all the other dungeons, I usually know at least roughly where I am, but still end up getting lost and going round in circles i...

Re: BT 1 - An enjoyable and hopefully optimal Party?
Ave to thee, wanderers of Skara Brae. As my "recent", not too popular poll-thread http://brotherhood.de/Bardstale/talefiles/board/viewtopic.php?t=1026&postdays=0&postorder=asc&vote=viewresult suggests, I decided to play BT 1 of the series, on APPLE II GS (with ActiveGS emulato...

Just finished re-playing through the PC-DOS version, and I've noticed quite a few differences between that and the Spectrum version that I played back in the day, that haven't already been mentioned above. As I've only ever played the PC and Spectrum versions, it would be interesting to confirm whic...

Where is Baron Harkyn?
Bearing in mind that we never actually meet Baron Harkyn during the game, has he fled or been killed by creatures when they overran the city or was he in league with Mangar?
