BTW some important points from the lost documentation. The "up arrow" on the C64 keyboard was used to exit dungeons. And if you don't have a torch or a light spell, you can't see inside of dungeons (per Ultima and BT). Spells are single letters of the alphabet which correspond to each clas...

Darkon - My C64 Game

Yeah, I actually wrote a full CRPG for the C64 over 2 decades ago. It was a shareware homage to Ultima, written 100% in 6502 Assembly (which I unfortunately don't remember a thing about: http://www.gamebase64.com/game.php?id=13908&d=18&h=0 Okay, it doesn't compare to Ultima and the documenta...

I would be 100% behind any effort to bring these old classics back to life. But more than remakes, I would prefer to see the spirit of the series continue with home brewed sequels. Honestly if the BTBuilder ends up being a success, that would be the ultimate. I can envision a repository of new BT ga...

Right. Now that you mentioned that, I think I remember why I bought it in the first place. 8) It allowed you to import BT3 characters, didn't it?

On a related note, is there a known bug with the C64 version (or any of the emulator hacks) which prevents hit points from regenerating when Bard Song #4 is played while Traveling? I've yet to successfully regenerate hit points when walking around in Skara Brae during the day, and end up relying too...

I never gave it a fair shot either. It didn't capture my imagination right away, so I gave up on it. I still have all the disks at home buried somewhere. Maybe it's time to try it under Vice64 and see what I really think of it. I really loved Thief of Fate, and the same basic programming team is beh...

Thief of Fate - First CRPG I purchased in 1988

Thief of Fate is very special to me, as it was the first CRPG I purchased. My best friend got me into Ultima III on the C64 and let me borrow his disks in 1988. Before that I had no idea what CRPGs were, and had never played DnD. I'd go over to his house and play Ultima III endlessly on my machine, ...

I love the C64 version for nostalgia purposes but also because it really pushed the system's graphics back in the day. Good songs too.

I just revisited BT1 for the first time in several years this week. It was a bit of a shock to be reminded of how hard it is to survive the first level in this game. I've never tried the skeleton trick. But I remembered (and still use) the samurai trick. It will get an entire party from Level 1 to L...

I played my first RPGs on the C64, so because of nostalgia I highly favor the C64 emulators. The catalog of available games is ridiculously huge, which is also a plus. I play BT1-3 on the Vice64 emulator under Win7. It is very stable, and it has some added functionality like being able to auto load ...
