There are certain levels that block APAR. Maybe you are in one of them.

In fact Dragon wars was the sequel to BT3, which was suggested to EA by the developer team, but EA gave up on rpg's. So they produced it in their own new company, however they haven't had any rights in the characters or brands of the "Tales of the unknown" aka "BT".

I guess Methuselas was talking of the Apple II GS version...? Although I think there wasn't a version for that one... :S BT III seems to have only been released for 4 systems, and of those the Amiga version has the best gfx. However, I don't know, what other drawbacks the Amiga version has above the...

@rakenan What emu for the C64 do you use? I use the CCS V3.7 and the Arnold disks just work nice. I just verified that temples work. It may rather be a problem of the emulator that you use. E D I T I just tested CCS V3.8 and all still works... Or did you mean healing from anything other then wounds?...

have you tried "Arnold's" disk version of BT1 for the C64?

The link is posted somewhere here in the forums.

Interesting....

Has this been tested with low level chars, hi level chars or both?

Hi level chars probably really pass the save roll every time, while
low levels shouldn't.

The whole fight is handled in the disk version in a subroutine at mem address $0893. Within that routine the program checks all menu options. If a party could successfully run away, that routine sets the zp var $4b to 1, when LEAVING the routine. WITHIN the routine this flags indicates the number of...

It were easier to patch the regarding dungeon files on the disks, if you permanently wanted APAR and/or PHDO on or off. As for APAR: the flags are set for all levels belonging to a dungeon set. Each dungeon file contains certain information about all levels of it. Only that way a teleport to a locke...

A party is determined by 2 bits of data: 1 roster entry containing all party members names 1 roster entry per party member. So the game wanted to access party member 1, lets say that would be "jimmy" and finds instead in neither slot a "jimmy", so it wants to reload it. Btw: this...

if we are talking about the C64 versions, just forget that checksum. Although it is created by a routine in the guild event, it is never used for anything later (afaik).

I can send anyone the disassembled guild event of the disk version, just pm me an email addy.

in BT1 there is a flag for an "inavoidable random fight", i. e. the monster type and number is not set, it is random, but the fight is inavoidable, it happens 100%. That flag is cleared after the fight. Then there are flags for "set fights", i. e. the type and number of opps is s...

You could try to identify the memory addresses of the character rosters in the CBM64 emulator, copy that bit of memory and "implant" it then into the disk version in emulator at the addresses used by it. I think I gave the memory address of character rosters for the disk version somewhere ...
