Hi Saxon, TRAPS in BT 1 and BT 2 are in an event file and defined as a special on that map cell. TRAPS on chests are different, I am talking about TRAPS in map cells. So WHAT traps do fail in BT2? I was investigating the map cell traps, i.e. the traps while walking... Another note: while in BT 1 al...

Ok well thank you for trying ZeroZero, much appreciated. Maybe someone else with knowledge of C64 game and file structures will take it up and check out the "Save" routine. I have done some programming in my life, but none with C64 so pretty clueless about it. EDIT: One additional thought....

My vague memories of playing this game back when it was new was that traps did not work, but then again that was like 1986 and I was 12 years old or so, so I could be wrong. If anyone can get into the code and if its an easy fix that would be fantastic. Kind of tarnishes this version for me oh well.

Dude... Darendor... did a girl tell you that she didn't want to go out with you or something like that? Because otherwise, you should realize that you always have the option of walking away from the C64 and looking at something illuminated by "the sun." Thanks, ass. The sun is overrated, ...

Cool site Dragonbait!

How would you all rank it up against the Bard's Tale games? I have started it a few times but never found time to get very far.

What's the recommended version to play?

Is the trap bug just for the Dark Domain? or does it also affect other dungeons as well. I think it would be better to test the other dungeons as the Dark Domain was meant to be a starter dungeon for characters that were created in BTII and not transfered from BTI. Perhaps it is just very difficult...

In addition, I also tried this on an Apple II emulator and the same issue occurs there.

See the other thread in the Developers Heaven section. (Not sure how to link a thread with the way this forum doesn't display a URL).

So, seems like original 2 versions of the game have this issue when emulated.

Dragon Wars section?

Would it be a good idea to add a Dragon Wars sub section to this forum? I know its not officially a Bard's Tale game, but I believe its built off the same engine and was made by the creator of BT III. Many seem to think much of it was intended to be Bard's Tale IV until EA scrapped it. I think many ...

Yea that's the same thing I did. What's odd is I did the same thing on the Apple II version with the same result. I can't believe its possible the apple II and C64 releases of the game had this bug. This makes me think its emulator related, but the fact that its the same on the Apple II version is q...

My map series excludes traps so I don't know if there's any that are close to the entry stairs of Dark Domain level one. I could take a fresh group of characters and see if they trigger one... The easiest trap to get to in the dark domain is on level 2 there is a trap near the medusa room at 6 Nort...

Ok one more update. I went into the Grey Crypt to test the run ability thinking it might be the parties level in relation to particular dungeon. I was still able to run about 9 out of 10 times but I did at least have one time I had to fight in there. So, I have no idea if its based on dexterity or a...

Edit post: Looked it up and I see speedboots are a real item, but no I dont have any. All my chars have 18 dexterity, but seems like it would be hard not to get 18 for all attributes once you get to like 16th level. Im only about level 2 in the Tombs though so maybe when I get into some harder place...

Yea but can you get it to cause any damage or effects on a trap?

I get the trap message that I triggered one they just never have any effect.

I always get the message be it a pit, warstrike or basilisk snare but NEVER get affected by any of them. Screen flashes after message then nothing.

Nope, I assume thats a real item and your not joking?

I can run 100% of the time. I think there are a couple of issues with emulating the game in c64. The thing is early in the game with low level characters I couldnt always do that, but now I can. Seems like other versions are different.

Interesting Stuff, thanks for posting. Maybe someday some of the original dev's will get bored enough and make another related game. We can dream. I assume you have seen this article..... "When asked by Cheek's Bard's Tale Page on October 15th, 1999 about the possibility of a Bard's Tale IV, Bi...
