Re: Item & Monster Specs

I think it's more likely that only the magic + damage is being multiplied by 16. So the 2d4+3 turns into 2d4+(3*16), which is 2d4+48. That will give you a range of 50-56 per attack, which is what your level 1 Elf was seeing. The level 1 Dwarf got 2 free damage for his 18 str, which makes his range 5...

Re: Item & Monster Specs

It looks like it has a bit field off. It's multiplying the magic + damage by 16.

All I can say is, get yourself a Spectre Mace!

Re: races and stats

How much do you want to know? There are a couple of threads in the Developers Heaven board that talk a lot about these things. High strength makes you do more damage. In particular, if you have 17 strength, you get one more damage per attack. If you have 18 strength, you get +2 damage per attack. Th...

Re: new member

Welcome!

Nice map.

Probably a good call on the Warrior, even without the bug. I think your Hunter will quickly become more powerful than the warrior ever would.

So... can you navigate with the keyboard, or do you use the mouse? I can't seem to find which keys would make me turn or go forward.

Re: Item & Monster Specs

I had expected that if an item was magical with a magical plus stat -- a mithril dagger, for example -- it would do extra damage, and also lower the Thac0. That is pretty standard for D&D, I understand, and also for other RPGs. However, it seems this is not the case. It does extra damage, but do...

Re: Versions compared

I brought up FS-UAE and tried the Amiga version. There is no keyboard movement around town and in dungeons. I have to use the mouse. This is a deal breaker for me. I did like the music much better, and the graphics. It was quite a bit slower. But I just can't get past using the mouse for simple forw...

Re: Best character for special slot?

I have trouble with both Greater Demons and Demon Lords, because yeah, a lot of the time they cast useless spells and waste their round. I think it's them casting a greater summoning spell, which is useless in the special slot because that slot is already taken by themself. Which is another reason w...

Re: Best Equipment

You need Spectre Snares for everyone that can wield them.

Yeah, I know, they don't drop unless there isn't one currently in the party. But how hard was it to figure out how to get around that restriction?

My strategy on the final battle depends on my party makeup and levels. But there are some general guidelines. My order of attack is Demon Lords, Mangar, Vampire Lords, any other summoned monsters. KILL THE Demon Lords FIRST. If a Demon Lord decides to hit you (as opposed to breathe on you or summon ...

Just use your bard. Start a party attack, play the Badhr Kilnfest, and defend repeatedly enough rounds that your party is at full health. The word of healing spell is less expensive than the temple, but only just barely. And it has a random component, so healing everyone up to full might even cost m...

Ummm... Actually, we did the tests and watched the Hunter ability byte in the save file as the Hunter gained levels. On the IBM PC version at least, the critical hit chance starts at 0 and goes up randomly 1-32 every level. It maxes out at 255, which is 100%. You should be making critical hits relia...

So I have an issue. My Instant Ogre seems to be doing more damage than I expected. My data on the Ogre says it does 6d4 damage. I have seen my Instant Ogre do as little as 7 damage, and as great as 43 damage. So is my Instant Ogre more buff than ogres that I encounter? That brings up other questions...

Shock Sphere is useful. You already have that at level 9, though. The next useful spell is Apport Arcane. However, you probably don't need all three mages to have it. Unless two of your mages get stoned and the one that survived is the one that doesn't have that spell. Then you might have a hard tim...
