Re: Best character for special slot?

I've never actually tried using Thor. I was always happy with my wind dragon. What does Thor do, anyway?

Re: Best character for special slot?

Well, the Soul Sucker breathes about as often as the Wind Dragon -- about 1/3 of the time. But he does quite a bit more damage. And he can't be disbelieved. Yeah, I'm liking my pet. Problem is, you have to go fetch him every game. Either in the 2nd level of the Catacombs or the 2nd level of Mangar'...

Re: Location of Credits in BT2

If memory serves, the "credits house" is found beside the building leading to the Dark Domain in Tangramayne. That's what I initially thought too. But I haven't been able to find it in either the Apple II or PC version. I've basically entered every building in Tangramayne and it isn't the...

Re: Best character for special slot?

GRSU in the Apple IIe version also summonst a demon lord about half the time. I also have always gone with the wind dragon. It's almost never disbelieved (I think I've seen it happen once or twice), and about 1/3 of the time it breathes for a fair amount of damage. The rest of the time it hits, almo...

Location of Credits in BT2

In BT1, across from the Adventurer's Guild, there was an unlabeled building where you were treated with a pixelated picture of Mike Cranford (in the 8-bit versions, at least), with the game credits scrolling on the side. I am positive I've seen something similar in BT2, but I can't remember where. I...

I just finished playing through it for the first time ever over the past month. On the whole, I enjoyed it. I kept trying to convince myself that in spirit, this game was Bard's Tale IV, although the game engine felt more like a hybrid between Bard's Tale III and Wasteland. The best part about it (a...

The biggest problem with the PC version is that the monster rosters for the different levels were completely messed up. There were monsters appearing on the wrong levels routinely. This was especially noticeable in the Tarmitia levels, where you would have Roman gladiators appearing in Berlin, and N...

Not shielded on the 2gs either. Great leveling-up system, especially on the gs, whether you would fly through the berserker battle pretty quickly.

Thinking back, I vaguely remember that once in a while, some critical hit weapons don't work the way they're supposed to if you transfer characters that have them equipped. Some other odd things happen when you transfer characters. For example, in the Apple 2gs version of BT1, the maximum number of ...

Top levels of Oscon's Castle

Just curious about something. The 3rd and 4th levels of Oscon's Castle have a large number of portals in odd locations that make it extremely easy to complete the dungeon by letting you bypass some particularly irritating areas. It has been speculated that these portals were put there to make life e...

I have to go back and look, but I think Dargoth's Tower has a couple of those really irritating areas where you have spinners & darkness together. Oscon's Castle definitely has a few of these.

Didn't see this -- haven't been by the last few weeks. To answer your question, no, this doesn't happen because of corrupted images. The blank screen happens when you summon a monster whose image is unique to a particular disk. Some images are common to all the disks (character, dungeon A, and dunge...

Well, it's moot, since I've worked my rogue up to about level 50 or 60 or so. But the Brilhasti trick did not appear to work with him (he was only about level 10 or 15 or so when my more powerful characters dragged him along to kill that guy).

I've never tried the Amiga version, so I don't know for sure. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing it in the Apple 2gs version, which was very similar to the Amiga version, and it's definitely in the PC version. So I would be very surprised if it wasn't in the Amiga as well.

Congrats for finding this wonderful classic. I'm surprised the statues didn't reset when you entered the guild -- it does on the apple II. They should reset whenever you enter a dungeon and leave, though. The "party attack" is very rarely used. Around the Catacombs or the Castle, you'll st...
