Tales of the Unknown: The Bard's Tale Design Document

Post by dragonbait »

Hi, I saw this Bard's Tale Tales of the Unknown Design Document over at gamebanshee. Apparently the original title was Shadow Snare and it had a dialog mode according to Brian Fargo. Does anyone know anything further about the dialog mode? Perhaps there may be some way to activate it?

Fantastic to see original material from the conception of the game. It's how amazing how accurate the design is in comparison to the final product.
The abandoned dialogue feature sounds fascinating. I guess it required too much memory and had to be abandoned. It would have been totally impossible on the tape versions.

I can't seem to find this document. Has it been removed?

Still there as far as I can see? You can link directly to the doc itself here:

I wonder if they retained any of the text for the abandoned dialogue feature. It would be really cool if someone made an enhanced version of BT with the dialogue feature implemented as it might have been originally if memory has not been a restriction. I invite anyone to take up this idea! :)
