Remastering Bard's Tale 1, 2 & 3

Post by Brian the Fist »

Bob K. just sent me this via E-mail - really sounds very interesting:
Hello there,

Regarding bardstale.brotherhood.de you may wish to post news that "Rebecca Heineman", developer of BT3 is actively remastering Bard's Tale 1, 2 & 3. See her twitter posts:

She is employed by OLDE SKÜÜL, INC. and their site at http://www.oldeskuul.com/ has a "Breaking News" item stating that Bard's Tale: Remastered is "Coming Soon".

Very interesting!

I use my spare time to continue my reverse enginieering BT1 for C64. As a next step I will soon come up with a disk version in German language ;)

It will merely be a translation with some German characters added to the font and some graphic exchanged.

Dunno how Becky and the others will see that fan project, I hope they do not understand it as a copyright infringement....

Hopefully this is completed and released. They stand to make a large profit if released on distribution platforms like GOG.com and Steam. Preferably GOG as I personally can't stand Steam's DRM. I for one would pay $40-$50 to have the finished BT 1,2,3 Remastered. The biggest feature to me would be the auto-mapping. The cleaner graphics would be a bonus, but not at the expense of GPU if made to be too demanding.

Absolutely agree to that. Especially to your preference for GOG as they do not use DRM with their distributions.

I think it is available now at GOG.com.
I haven't tried it yet.

Yeah, I just picked up Volume 1. It's gorgeous.

Picked it up about three (?) weeks ago. Playing it quite a bit. It's very well done (IMO).

On the 3rd level of Harkyn's. My Wizards just topped out, so they're about to do their "final" class change (at least until BT2 remastered is complete and I can switch to Archmage).

By the way, a few "key" things that most of us used to exploit for grinding simply aren't available. The most noteworthy is the famous Berserker fight. Only get to do it once (have a "start a totally new game" to "reactivate it"). But since the old "cap" to XP you could get from a single fight is gone, you *do* get the true reward (the full ~180,000 XP, not the capped to 65,535 XP amount). Take into account the halved level requirements, and you "effectively" get the equivalent of doing the fight six times (but only have to actually do it once), and then no more...
