At 10N, 3E the hint has "if", this should be "is".

And how'd you manage to modify the spells?
Each spell or spell-group has its own code and in addition there are some memory-tables for spell point cost, damage, range and so on. If you want to change a spell, you have to use the 'code-slot' from another spell and write your own code. If you just want to change the damage or range of a spell you have to modify the linked memory-table.

And if I recall right, items that are used in combat such as a Flame Horn simply cast a particular spell, is that right?

Correct! They cast a particular spell but have different memory-tables (e.g. range, damage...)

So did you add items to the existing ones, or did you just change existing items?

Since there is a fix number of items, I just changed the name and attributes of some items...

On the Crypt Level 1, at 19N, 15E the hint has the word "phylacter"; this should be "phylactery".

I presume failing to enter level 2 of the Crypt renders every single square with the following:

- Anti-Magic
- Spinner
- Magic Point Leech Zone
- Darkness
- Silence

Did I miss anything?

It seems you have found what you need for level2.
Yes, the four letters is a riddle over the whole game. You have to collect them in different dungeons and get some hints where they are.
If it's too hard, I can help you a bit via PM.

Are those the 5 flags that get set when one doesn't have the "Skull" item on them?

The skull and the five flags have nothing to do with the 'four'. Did you collect the four letters?

You seem to not comprehend what I'm asking you, so I'll reword it like this:

What, specifically, happens when one ventures down to level 2 without whatsisnuts' skull with them?
