I love these games and I haven't played them since I was probably about 14 or 15 when I played through most of Destiny Knight. It's one of my fondest memories on the C64. I remember playing BT1 a bit but not that much of it as I recall I wasn't really sure what to do in it.

So anyway, Im playing through BD1 on a C64 emulator and loving it so far! Only thing I wish was that it had an auto map, having to manually create my own maps is kind of fun, but a little bit tedious.

Not sure why but I like the c64 version best I think, maybe it's nostalgia...but I like the darker feel of this version that the others.

I know there are maps out on the internet but that kind takes away the fun of discovering things for my self.

Im currently exploring the sewers. They don't make fun games like this anymore.

Well, making your on (pen&paper) maps in front of the screen when playing such games like
BT, Ultima, Dungeon Master etc was a major part of the fun in those glorious days of old

I still remember kneeling in front of the TV in turns with a friend, copying Ultime 3 maps on
paper, our backs a knees achin' like hell, but we gave no quarters

I totaly agree with you, games like this aren't made anymore. Thats
why i stoped buying new ones a couple of years ago. Modern day games
are all about effects and hardware, but the stories behing have stoped
improving a long time ago.
As it goes for me, graphics and effects should only be a part of the show,
and not the whole show all be itself. I mean look at us, here we are, back
in Skara Brae hot on Mangars heels with no graphics and such to speak of .

Is it still fun to play you ask? You damn bet it is!

It's always overwhelming to see that there are so many people out there that still have that strong affinity to this great game! I am one of them!!

There has to be some kind of a market for these types of games! I enjoyed the Eschalon game recently made by an indy studio, I think they mentioned they have been thinking of making a game similar to this type of style in the future, I sure hope they do. Today's games are basically First Person Shooter's in my opinion and are fun for about 2 hours for me......

These old great RPG's I can play for week and months and they creep into my Brain where I think about them until I can get home to play them some more.

Mangar will not survive my wrath for long!

I think there are still quite a few of us around. The mainstream console market has really killed us I think, the dev shops all want the big money which unfortunately comes from the mainstream console market.

I sure hope that some dev shops increase in size and start making the types of game I love again.

I have tinkered with making my own game and have done some work on it (I work in IT and have done some programming etc...), the only problem is finding the time to work on it with my other job.

games back from the 80's i'll never ever forget: Elite, Dungeon Master
and last, but certainly not least, The Bards Tale 1.
I can't put a finger on it, but for some reasons i entertain a very fond
memory on the above mentioned games.

Of course there had been a couple of much greater events in my life,
like the birth of my daughter for example, too name just one (the best
of all, you bet ).

games back from the 80's i'll never ever forget: Elite, Dungeon Master
and last, but certainly not least, The Bards Tale 1.

Hawkeye, wow, you are the first person to mention Elite in quite some time. I love that game just as much as the BT Trilogy & Alternate Reality. I have all the original versions mentioned on these boards for the C-64. I still occasioanlly find them at computer & amateur radio shows I go to. People keep dragging them out of the attic/closet/basement (original packaging, manuals, software, etc. Since I am a sucker like that I buy them up and then store them in a safe place until I setup the C-64 for some nostalgic play time.
