Major, bizarre buggyness.

Post by Horpner »

This is the strangest Amiga Bard's Tale 2 bug yet!

My party was eventually overcome by traps in the first level of the GREY CRYPT. The last to die was my Kringle bro.

The "Sorry, bud." screen appeared, and then we were all teleported back to The Adventurers Guild, as usual. I added in a live archmage who I hadn't brought along with me (wtf are three archmages going to accomplish in the GREY CRYPT, after all?) and stepped outside. I found myself in Tangramayne, which was odd since the last time I saved I was in Ephesus. I then cast HEAL to get almost everybody back up on their feet, and then the weird started.

First, by archmage's spell points dropped from 467 to 173 in one swell foop. Next, everybody in the party was instantly re-killed. Also, the city display went black. Then the "Sorry, bud." appeared again, and I was back in the Adventurer's Guild, feeling stunned.

So I went to plan B. I removed another guy, and loaded my mule character (the Amiga version has no banks or casinos, so it's back to the old mule system), and attempted to head to a temple. After two steps in Tangramayne, the city visual went blank again, and the following odd message appeared on my screen: "There are stairs here going up. Do you wish to take them?" My heart sank.

Well, I took the stairs, hoping I'd exit somewhere sane, but no, I'm stuck in some sort of nameless phantom dungeon with no live characters except a Herb named HARRY, no way to make a light, and no way out.

It looks like I've got to start over and load my party from their previous save point. What a pain in the butt. And my gold, stored "safely" on HARRY the mule, is now gone, since I've loaded him but can't save him back to disk.

Bleaargh! My mother told me I should stick with the C64 version.

And so do I.

Stick with the C64 version.
