Getting into Dargoth's Tower?

I beat all the Bard's Tale games on my Apple II back in the 80s and decided to give them another go around. But this time, getting into Dargoth's Tower has me stumped. Finished the Tombs and Fanskar's and got the first two segments of the Destiny Wand. Talked to the Sage, went to Philippi and am hitting a locked iron gate. Did I miss a key somewhere?
