If you're curious I dug up a program which you can punch in within the emulator to extend C64 DOS if you want more flexibility in your programming.

Enjoy.

Eighty columns on a C64.

(unfortunately this program isn't shown on the web page. If you can find a microfilmed/scanned/PDFed copy of the magazine page you're in business.)

Need to get more RAM in the emulator somehow?

http://www.atarimagazines.com/compute/i ... PANDER.php

Get 16K extra.

The basic principle is similar to the way you can switch in the Language Card on the Apple (which also has switchable 16K banks) as well as how you use the 80column soft switches to also trigger switching between two 64K banks of memory on a //e or //c.

Darendor lamented the lack of hi-res on the C64. Actually, it does exist, just that apparently you need to do some hornswoggling to use it.

Will keep looking.

Find out more about the stuff on your C64 floppies:

http://www.atarimagazines.com/compute/i ... odore.html

Again, the program is not provided but if you go looking for the actual magazine and/or scans it'll be there.

Oh, if you're curious, this page explains how the MLX thing works and if you're smart, you can figure out how to enter stuff even if you lack MLX. :)
