A magic mouth on the wall speaks to you:

"Despised ones, none save Mangar may enter his demesne."

I get this when I try to enter The tower. What have I forgotten to do.

I managed to see this magic mouth message after going to Mangar's tower entrance, dropping all items for all players, and kicking down the door to the tower.

So there is an item that you need. Perhaps the Onyx key.

EDIT - I have confirmed now that it *is* the Onyx key that you need.

Yeah, Onyx Key. You get it from Kylearan.
